lessons
Chris holds a Masters of Music from California State University, Long Beach, and offers lessons in cello, guitar, piano, and voice, as well as songwriting, composition/arranging, and music theory. Chris tailors lessons to individual students’ goals and needs, and he offers instruction in any musical style. He teaches any age from beginner to advanced.
Highly trained and accomplished in both classical and contemporary forms of music, Chris focuses on the holistic development of his students. This first includes training students in fundamental techniques fitted to their particular instrument and physiology. He then guides his students through necessary musicianship skills such as ear training, note/rhythm reading, and theory. He also equips students with the tools for improvisation, fruitful collaboration, and making a career in music for those who seek that path. Chris believes that, while learning one’s instrument and repertoire can be difficult, reaching a high level of musicality is an extremely rewarding pursuit that should be relevant and fun.
Chris is accredited in a number of certification programs including the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), helping students who desire an extra challenge reach the highest levels of excellence for college preparation and beyond. Chris’ students have gone on to study music with generous scholarships at institutions such as Loyola Marymount University and Portland State University.
Chris is a proud member of The Music Abode Collective, a cooperative of private teachers in Southern California who pool their resources to provide students with world-class recitals, masterclasses, workshops, summer camps, and more. All of Chris’ students are eligible for these wonderful opportunities to aid in their growth as a musician.
Chris is available for in-person lessons in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas as well as remotely on Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime.
